Keovilay not to defend Vuelta title

Written by Asymm Project at 20:15 17/1-2014

Anousone Keovilay will skip the upcoming Vuelta de los Castillos, and therefore won't defend his title. Asymm Project won't attend the race either.

Manager Holger explained in a brief press conference that Keovilay "is just returning from his TF recovery, and won't be fit enough to be worth sending a team to Spain".

It's obvious that Keovilay has been recharging his TF with Germany Tour in mind, providing that Delicano's second place last year grants the team a reserved spot. However, the current bad streak of the team is starting to become worrying: they haven't scored a result in the whole season, they're sitting in the 200th position in the year's ranking, and the only earnings are a mere 12k by Delicano and 6k by Xiang.

Holger also expressed his discomfort with the situation, and underlined that "too much bad luck isn't a question of luck".

With an off day in the last day of TvA, Xiang missed his top9 spot and finished 11th on GC. Following that, the team missed 3 breaks while sending all the team on that mission, plus an injury for Abdullah in Oslo and an off day for Delicano meant a 10th place in the classic (a 9th would have sufficed to score a result).

Another off day for Delicano in Oman, meant a low 26th place, followed by a third off day for him in India with yet another 10th place.

But the team's bad luck didn't end then and there, as Delicano had a FOURTH IN A ROW OFF DAY in Australia, with the coincidence that Venu had super legs... only to finish 10th.

To top it all, You Xiang wasn't able to score in perfect form yesterday, and finished 11th once again.

In the aforementioned period (from day 14 to 32), the team hasn't scored a single point, thus hasn't earned a single dollar on race prizes. There have been 14 off days (5 of the for captains, which is more than in the two previous seasons), only a super legs day (10th place...), 4 crashes and 3 mechanical issues.

On the other hand, this year objectives are not a high ranking or high scores, but trophies and maillots. We'll need to change our luck, but hopefully Teravainen (who already won a classic for us in the past) can give us a nice present in Antwerpen or Astana, plus the plan for taking Keovilay to Germany is going as planned.

  Delicano 10th today, once again.

4 off days for him since day 20, 3 10th places, and of course 0 out of 5 in top9 placings.

Asymm Project at 13:23 19/1-2014
Not that much, plus there is a hill classic on day 40 and another good race for him on day 43.

Jonas Pro Cycling at 00:00 19/1-2014
What about Delicano? He is also a rider suited for Vuelta.

CGPBMARCH at 08:43 18/1-2014
